Born in Manila, educated in the United States, but living in Spain since 1960, the life and work of Fernando Zóbel span three continents, different cultures, and several languages. This «cosmopolitan» nature of his painting is shared with some other important Filipino artists from the colonial past, but it is also one of the identity markers of the emerging Filipino nation born in 1946.
